You may have missed it in the recent newsletter but we have an exciting opportunity for our Torquay parent community. Our district Indigenous Drum Program Facilitator, Gordie Bear, is holding a special drum making workshop for our parents. Parents will spend the day learning how to make Indigenous drums using traditional techniques and materials. The drum-making process is quite physical so Gordie recommends that participants should be able to curl 20lbs! The workshop will take place on February 7th, from 8:45am to 3:00pm. There is no cost to individual parents as our PAC is funding the cost of the workshop. As is traditional in Indigenous culture, the first drum you make, you gift. So, once the drums are made, parents will gift the drums to the school and Torquay will have our first set of drums!
An email with details has been sent to those who are on the list to attend.
